This is a new and improved version of the classic Mikrophonie contact microphone module. This version incorporates the features of the (now discontinued) Mutable Ears module but allows you to push the preamp into dirtier territory. The kit also includes a choice of 2 x frontpanels allowing the builder to choose whether to have the scratchplate at the top or bottom of the panel.

The different effects are physically hosted in hot-swappable game cartridges and each one is designed by a different manufacturer. All effect carts come already pre-assembled.

Includes 7 carts from Befaco, Instruo, Feedback, Making Sound Machines, Tesseract, Touellskouarn, and XOR.

Each effect features CV control over two different parameters (X & Y) as well as CV over the dry/wet mix. There is also a built-in CV controllable four band EQ which can be switched to either pre-FX or post FX. All effects also have two modes of operation: A and B. What these two modes do depends on the individual cartridge design.

Ksoloti is an environment for generating and processing digital audio. The Sebsongs Sampler is a live sampling 12-bit intuitive audio mangler.

This intuitive 12-bit audio recorder and manipulator designed for short loops and one shots. Sounds can be recorded either with the built-in microphone or a mono input jack, which can handle a full range of signal levels, from a regular laptop or smartphone right up to modular level.

The Sampler has granular control of the recorded audio and you can play around with pitch, forward and reverse, start position and loop length (or connect cv/gate to any parameter) to open up a world of interesting sounds!

The sampler is for people who live and modulate in the moment. No presets! No surrender!

The Kassutronics Quantiser is a two channel pitch

The Kassutronics Quantiser is a two channel pitch quantiser in 10HP Eurorack format. This module has completely flexible scales and a number of clever functions in its design. The active notes are defined by 12 illuminated push buttons that can be toggled on and off individually. This allows any custom scale to be programmed, or even just a subset of a scale. Simply enabling only 3 or 4 notes will often give more useful results than a traditional 7-tone scale.

Djupviks have come in heavy with a Triple broken-delay and no-input mixer combined.

This 18HP, 3 channel “broken” delay and no-input mixer combined has both series and parallel outputs. Each channel has a dedicated filter and CV control over delay time.

As well as being used as a “standard” broken delay it can also be used as a no input mixer (similar to Shakti). Patch one (or several) outputs into one of its inputs, and then patch out from any of the outputs you are not using. Manipulating delay time and filters will have a huge effect on the sound.

The delay section can be used either in series or parallel. Patching into channel one and patching out of channel 3 will give you the signal in series (sound is passed through all 3 delays
in series). Patching into one channel and out of the same channel will give you parallel delays (which means you can use this with three different sound sources). The mix output will always give you all three delays in parallel.

The 7U Case from Befaco is a new powered DIY 104HP Eurorack case consisting of two rows of 3U (6U total) and a row for 1U modules as well (Intellijel format). The 1U row can be built either sandwiched in the middle of the other two rows or sitting at the top of the case.

The case has been designed with a high-quality Unibody Black Anodised Aluminum frame, finding the balance between slim and sturdy. With a maximum depth of 53mm (power supply side) and 70mm (rest of the case), it can house the vast majority of modules out there. Equipped with a high-quality anti-vandalic power button and a Kensington lock connector, the Befaco 7U Case is also a safe device to travel with. The included PET-G clear cover lid keeps your modules safe even while patched.

Equipped with a new and sophisticated power supply (Trolley Bus), this case can supply a huge 5000mA of power. Ready to feed the most modern and power-hungry modules. The rear panel counts with a vast array of connections to pair your system with external devices. Each connector follows the Intellijel format, making them fully compatible with Intellijel’s own 1U connectivity modules. The back panel features: 6 x 1/4″ Jacks I/Os, with Balanced and Unbalanced configuration, MIDI In/Out/Thru ports, USB Device Type B, and Apple compatible USB-A charging ports.

Leafcutter John has just released an amazing video showing 6 different ways to use contact mics in your Eurorack system with the Music Thing Modular Mikrophonie v3.

Mikrophonie is the perfect beginners DIY kit with a super easy build.

Mikrophonie is a microphone preamp with a piezo contact mic built into the panel. It is an easy way to bring environmental noise and feedback into a modular system, inspired by the early days of electroacoustic music in Paris and Cologne, and by the contact microphone and phonograph cartridge experiments of John Cage, Gordon Mumma, Robert Ashley and Nicholas Collins.

It also works very well as a way to trigger Mutable Instruments Rings and Elements, and as a generally weird tactile CV source.

Since the first Mikrophonie in 2014, it's become one of the most popular eurorack DIY projects (spotted in Ryuichi Sakamoto's modular).

In 2016, Émilie Gillet of Mutable Instruments took the original open-source Mikrophonie design and completely re-designed it, creating Ears, with cleaner amplification and added envelope follower and gate outputs. Branded 'Mutable Music Things' it was an improvement in every way.

Since Mutable Instruments closed in 2022, Ears hasn't been available, so this 2023 edition Mikrophonie (you might call it Mikrophonie 3) takes Émilie's design, moves the LEDs to more sensible places and boosts the gain to make it more malleable for experimental contact mic usage.
