Description
Start your modular synth journey with this easy-to-follow and inspiring book. Inside a beautiful handmade binder, you’ll find all the information and PCBs you need to construct your own starter mini Eurorack system. Ideal for beginners or those who want a satisfying build, this book guides you through the world of analog electronics, inviting you to try your hand at soldering while gaining valuable knowledge.
The binder itself is handmade by Wainwright Bookbinding in London which features an olive green cloth with gold embossed text cover and inside a beautiful hand marbled paper, each one a unique pattern. The pages are divided by PCBs in the classic green colour with gold plating and has decorative patterns that echo the book.
The 9 PCB divider pages contain 14 projects to build a starter eurorack system, including the enclosure! The system you will build is a simple set of modules typically found in a traditional subtractive synthesis setup plus a microcontroller module to create ancillary functions.
They are as follows:
- PSU – capable of +12V and -12V at around 100mA. (requires a centre positive 12v DC ‘wall-wart’ power supply with 2.1mm barrel, either use your own of tick the box above to add it to your order.
- Microcontroller – a digital programmable interface that can play sounds, create simple control voltages, gates, and act as a USB MIDI interface depending on programming
- Two VCOs – voltage-controlled sawtooth oscillators, creating rich harmonic sounds
- Mixer – utility for mixing sound or control voltages
- Attenuverters – utility for attenuating or inverting control voltage
- VCF – a gristly resonant variable state variable filter
- Dual VCA – double VCA, can also be used as a mixer with the VCF
- LFO – slow variable slope and frequency oscillations for control voltage
- Envelope – creates attack and release envelope for control voltage
- Two Passive multiples – utility for sending your signal to multiple destinations
- Two Enclosures – a low-cost way to mount your modules
- Two 8HP blanking plates
The book is designed on the principles of accessibility and easy assembly, meaning it is straightforward to split the whole book up into manageable chunks. Each chunk is a module, which conveniently is a chapter of the book. Which will explain how to build the module as well as suggestions on how it works. Even the least experienced builder should manage one module per evening with the step-by-step assembly instructions. If you get stuck, support can be obtained from the Discord community and build guide videos. Components for the circuits should be easy to obtain as they are very commonly used; or, if you do not feel confident sourcing them yourself, a kit is available on purchase.
This presale will help get the first 100 copies of this book into production and will be a special numbered edition. If you share my enthusiasm for modular synths and accessible DIY electronics, please consider buying this book even if you are experienced. By doing so, you’ll not only help make this resource a reality, but you’ll also secure your own synth journey to begin soon!
What doesn’t it include?
You’ll need a USB cable to program the Microcontroller and patch cables to make music.
How long will it take to deliver?
Because this is the first run and there are some custom and handmade parts we estimate that the first run will take around two months to complete. We are on track to ship your order on 3rd June 2024.
Can I cancel my order?
Yes you can cancel your order by emailing [email protected] no later than Thursday May 30th 2024 (UK time). We will deduct 3% from the total you paid to cover the refund costs from PayPal and Credit Cards companies.
