Radio Music MK2

Radio Music is a virtual radio module. It’s a 4HP Eurorack sample player that sits somewhere between a CV controllable radio, a tape loop machine and a vintage sampler. Think of it as a fun, controllable source of unexpected audio in a Eurorack system.

The original Radio Music was born in 2014 and retired in 2021 when the chips were no longer available. This new 2026 MK2 Radio Music has been completely redesigned with improved hardware and software. The module keeps it’s compact size and simple interface while also adding lots more depth and playback options.

There is now a V/Oct chromatic pitch mode, and also more modes for tuner control, speed and looping, which can be performed on-the-fly by using the new (optional) Radio Remote.

The noise floor has been significantly lowered, now measuring better than -86dB. Playback is hi-fi,  and speed changes are smooth and tape-like (unless you purposefully choose the gnarly 90’s sampler mode)!

Supported file formats now include WAV, AIFF and RAW files up to 24-bit / 96kHz and playback latency is extremely low (<2ms).

Radio Controls

The Station knob is used to browse samples stored on the SD card, just like tuning a radio. The Reset button retriggers the selected sample from the start, while the Start knob sets the start point of the sample.

Tapping the Start knob enters into pitch mode – now this knob will control the playback speed and direction of the current sample. Tap this knob again at any time to return to Start mode.

Just like an analog radio, the module works on a series of banks and stations. Each of the 16 banks can contain many different stations. Each station is an audio file stored in a folder on the SD card. It’s now easier than ever to move between banks by simply pushing and turning the Station knob.

Radio Remote

Radio Music works by itself, with all options available in the settings file on the SD card. The optional Radio Remote gives tactile, playable access to many of these settings, allowing for quick performance of parameters such as Speed and Loop modes without having to edit any settings on the sd card file.

Radio Remote is an alternative firmware for the 8mu USB MIDI controller with an alternative front panel. The remote connects to the Radio Music via the USB socket on the module.

Note: other midi controllers will not work with Radio Music, but if you already have an 8mu, you can update the firmware to use it with Radio Music MK2 and get the remote panel HERE

Radio remote only works with the new 2026 version of Radio Music – it does not work with Radio Music V1.

We don’t include a USB-C cable as we believe there are already enough USB cables in the world.

Like the MK1 version, Radio Music is designed to be hackable, with alternative firmware development actively encouraged. The MK2 runs on the same popular and powerful RP2040 processor as Workshop Computer and 8mu. We’ll be sharing documentation and ‘Hello World’ files demonstrating file access and playback. Note: it’s not possible to update a MK1 Radio Music firmware to add the features of MK2 to older modules
