Description

Thresh from Timo Rozendal is a 6HP expander module for the Automator, but thanks to its universal design it can work in any modular system independently.

Thresh has a unipolar CV input, which takes your CV and splits and maps it across six regions of outputs. Four of these outputs have up and down behaviour that changes based on Thresh’s four different up/down modes. Ultimately this let you open gates or send out triggers based on the direction the CV input is moving and when regions change.

Each setting has subtleties that can help trigger percussive sounds or samples, open up effects, or create performance points in a complex patch. Three different trigger modes change overall behaviour that allow for exclusive or simultaneous triggers as well as adjusting how the un-paired 1st and 6th channel behave. A Quantize button will only allow changes when the clock pulse is present. Whether you have an Automator or any other gestural interaction module, the Thresh will be a flexible and powerful addition to your rack.

Features:

  • Expander for Automator, but can work independently
  • Unipolar CV utility for expressive voltage generation
  • 6 Channels of trigger/gate outputs
  • Channels 2–5 have independently Up and Down outputs
  • Interaction varies based on modes and settings
  • Lower button toggles quantization to incoming clock.
  • Top button toggles between response of R2-R5: they either toggle gate on when moving ↓ and toggle gate off when moving ↑ (useful when you want to change the sound depending on direction), or they fire triggers like L1-L6 when moving ↓ (useful when triggering different sounds per direction).
  • Top and lower button combo toggles between response of L1-L6:

Trigger Modes:

  • RED
    L1-L6: triggered when moving ↑
R2-R5: triggered when moving ↓, or toggled on when moving ↓ and toggled off when moving ↑
  • GREEN / allows retriggering of the same output from both directions.
L1-L6: generally triggered when moving ↑ but can be retriggered with focused movement
R2-R5: generally triggered when moving ↓, or toggled on when moving ↓ and toggled off when moving ↑ but can be retriggered with focused movement
  • WHITE / useful for longer duration notes
L1: gate on at threshold (use this for longer duration notes)
    L6: gate on at threshold
    L2-L5: triggered when moving ↑
R2-R5: triggered when moving ↓, or toggled on when moving ↓ and toggled off when moving ↑
  • LIGHTBLUE / useful when you want to change the sound depending on direction and speed
    L1-L6: triggered when moving ↑ or ↓
R5: gate if ↑ velocity above certain threshold
R4: trigger when direction is ↑
R3: trigger when direction is ↓
R2: gate if ↓ velocity above certain threshold
  • PURPLE / useful for shaker sound that triggers with every change of direction
    L1-L6: triggered when moving ↑ or ↓
R5: gate if velocity above certain threshold
R4: gate when direction is ↑
R3: gate when direction is ↓
    R2: trigger when direction changes
