Description

The FMP is an 8HP Eurorack FM module which is capable of a wide range of sounds, from clean tones, deep kicks, noisy hats/snares, bell like sounds and even polyphone chords (see user manual for details). Internally it uses the Yamaha YM2413 FM chip to generate sound as used in various game cartridges and consoles (e.g. Atari, MSX and Sega).

There are 7 parameters that shape the sound and with CV you can interpolate between two sets of parameter settings to generate very dynamic patterns. The FMP also has two modes – in Tone mode the module is a 2 operator FM synth voice with a carrier that is modulated by a modulator. This modulator can also modulate itself (feedback). The FM chip also contains built in drum sounds, these are exposed in the drum mode. Here you can only change the level (and mix) of each sound and the pitch, but here you can also interpolate with CV between two sets.

It’s possible to save the settings on FMP so that it will load with the same sounds on the next startup. The module is lofi by nature and the cv inputs can be noisy, so that means there will often be a variation in sound depending on knob settings.  This is both a limitation and a charm and can be controlled somewhat by adjusting settings on the module, more details are available in the user manual linked below.
