Talko 2 is presented in two formats – here we have the desktop version, and there is also an 18HP Eurorack module. Both are functionally identical speech synthesisers which speak numbers, alphabets, phonemes, and classic phrase banks, with real-time pitch, speed, and effect manipulation using the onboard controls or via CV inputs.

Two important new releases from Sound Semiconductor today!

The SSI2100 is a new generation bucket brigade delay, developed on a modern IC process for performance improvements and new features while preserving the “mojo” of such beloved and quirky analog delay circuits.

A 512-stage bucket chain allows a wide range of delay times from a clock frequency of 1kHz to over 2MHz. A novel circuit (patent pending) allows easy connection of multiple SSI2100’s for longer delay times without having to recalibrate inputs and outputs.

An additional benefit to daisy-chaining is access to intermediate feedback taps for interesting reverb and other psychoacoustic effects.

An integrated clock driver greatly simplifies external clock sourcing and is TTL-compatible, making a companion BBD clock IC unnecessary.

Also on-chip is a tetrode bias voltage generator that eliminates the need for externally providing the legacy “14/15 VGG” supply voltage.

The SSI2100 is available in a super-compact 8-lead SOP surface-mount package.

The SSI2160 is a budget single-channel VCA building block for high-performance audio applications. Voltage control of current-mode inputs and outputs allow an exponential gain range of +20dB to 100dB, with control provided by a ground-referenced 33mV/dB constant.

The device offers considerable flexibility for a wide range of design goals and applications. A unique mode control allows selection of Class A, Class AB, or in-between using a single resistor. The SSI2160 can be used as a high-quality building block for a variety of applications such as dynamic range processors, voltage controlled filters, exponential generators, and antilog converters.

The SSI2160 will operate on supplies as low as +8V for battery-powered devices such as guitar pedals, or up to ±18V in systems where maximum headroom is desired.

The SSI2160 is part of a family of affordable high-performance VCA’s from Sound Semiconductor.

TRIAD is an affordable 3 oscillator square wave drone/noise/glitch synth, capable of generating a range of tones and sounds from strong lead type sounds to glitched out clicks and pops.

The 3 oscillators drive and reset each other in different ways depending upon the switch/button settings, and an external trigger, gate or clock can also be used to reset 2 of the 3 oscillators.

TRIAD works great as part of a drone or noise setup, makes for excellent sample fodder, and thanks to the neat “reset” input it can play along with drum machines and sequencers (especially when paired with a little low-pass gate).

TRIAD is powered by a 9V center-positive power supply or batteries.

The Drum sequencer from @ericasynths and @moritzklein0 is the latest edition in the mki x es.edu DIY Eurorack range.

Most drum sequencers are complex machines – packed with buttons and LEDs, all driven by a microcontroller. For this DIY Drum Sequencer kit, MKi and Erica have decided to take the opposite approach: a hands-on rhythm engine with a minimalist interface, built from just a handful of logic chips.

Each of the sequencer’s four channels is programmed in real time using a single button. Patterns loop automatically, can be shortened on the fly, and support half-time playback for slower, evolving grooves. Accents are handled using synced LFOs, while a simple resistor-DAC turns patterns into stepped control voltages – perfect for modulating pitch, decay, or other parameters.

Whether you’re looking to learn about sequencer design, sharpen your soldering skills, or just want a drum sequencer that plays like an instrument, this DIY kit packs surprising depth into a refreshingly simple interface.
