Dyn is a stereo transient shaper and dynamics processor for Eurorack. It is a hardware version of the DSP behind Surreal Machines’ Crack plugin, rebuilt around a full always-on dynamics chain: a gate, a maximizer and a limiter, each with its own amount fader, and a clipper that catches whatever comes out the other end.
Transient shaping sculpts the shape of a sound rather than its level. A transient is the short burst of energy at the beginning of a sound. Attack raises or lowers that beginning, making the sound more or less punchy. Sustain raises or lowers the tail, making the sound fuller and longer or tighter and more gated. Both are level-independent — there is no threshold to set, and they behave the same whether the signal is quiet or loud. Think of them as contrast dials for your sound.
Around the shaper sits the dynamics chain: a gate to clean up the space between hits, a maximizer to push everything toward the ceiling, a limiter to hold the peaks, and a mix control for parallel processing. Everything is stereo-linked — the gate, maximizer, limiter and shaper all follow the louder of the two channels — so the stereo image stays where it is.
Dyn works on drums first and foremost, but is just as happy on synth voices, feedback patches, or a whole submix.

- Sustain controls the body of your sounds
- Based on Surreal Machine’s Crack Plugin
- Noise gate turns down the level of the output between hits
- Maximizer makes everything louder
- Mix in your original sound for parallel processing
- Approximately 1ms latency
